The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has announced a $1.2 million contribution from Sweden to Afghanistan.

In a post on its X account on Thursday, October 15, OCHA said that Sweden had contributed 10 million Swedish kronor, equivalent to $1.2 million, to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund.

OCHA said the contribution would help strengthen joint efforts to address humanitarian needs in Afghanistan.

OCHA expressed its appreciation for Sweden’s continued solidarity and emphasised the importance of cooperation in addressing humanitarian needs in Afghanistan.

The contribution comes as the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP) warned that an estimated 19.2 million people in Afghanistan are expected to face acute food insecurity this winter.
