Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Supreme Leader Mujtaba Khamenei has not prevented negotiations with the United States, adding that talks are proceeding within the framework of official state decisions.
According to Al Jazeera, Pezeshkian said on Wednesday, July 2, that if Iran’s supreme leader had ordered the government not to negotiate, it would have complied without hesitation.
His remarks came in response to domestic debate over Khamenei’s position on the recent understanding between Iran and the United States.
Discussion over the supreme leader’s stance intensified after he said he held a “different view” regarding the agreement.
The comments also come as U.S. President Donald Trump has said negotiations between Washington and Tehran are progressing well, describing the process as “very good.”
