Pope Leo XIV, leader of the Catholic Church, has called for an end to violence and fighting in Yemen, two weeks after undergoing surgery.
Reuters reported late Sunday, October 25, that the Pope expressed concern over the humanitarian situation in Taiz, a city in southwestern Yemen.
According to the report, he said he sincerely hoped hostilities would end so that people in Yemen and throughout the region could live in peace.
The Pope also said he was praying for those killed and injured in what he described as a “terrorist attack against Orthodox worshippers” at Hamoud Church in Jordan on Friday.
“I express my solidarity with that community and the entire country, which is known for the peaceful and respectful coexistence of followers of different religions,” he said.
Pope Leo also called on everyone to support through prayer a gathering of religious leaders scheduled for Tuesday in the Italian city of Assisi to promote peace.
