Sources in Kandahar province say the Taliban have begun recruiting new personnel for their military forces to be deployed to Afghanistan’s border areas.

Sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Monday, October 5, that the Taliban have been recruiting young people for military positions in Kandahar, Helmand, Uruzgan and Zabul provinces over the past several days.

One source said the Taliban’s Ministry of Defense has launched a recruitment drive to enlist 1,000 new personnel across the four provinces.

According to the source, recruits must have a Taliban fighter provide a guarantee for them.

The source added that another condition is that newly recruited personnel will be deployed to border areas immediately after completing a short period of military training.

A second source also confirmed the claims, saying the newly recruited personnel will be assigned to positions within the Taliban’s Ministry of Defense.
