The Taliban announced that 147 citizens of Afghanistan who had been imprisoned in Pakistani prisons for varying periods have been released and returned to the country.
The Taliban’s Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation said in a statement released on Thursday, July 2, that the individuals entered Afghanistan after being released from prisons in Pakistan.
According to the statement, the returnees include families and single individuals who had been detained in Pakistan due to the lack of valid residency documents.
The Taliban also said that 125 of the returnees entered the country through the Torkham border crossing, while 22 returned via the Spin Boldak crossing.
This comes as the detention and deportation of citizens of Afghanistan from neighboring countries, particularly Pakistan and Iran, have increased in recent months due to the lack of legal residency documents and stricter immigration policies.
