Local sources in Kandahar say that the Taliban have banned people from visiting recreational sandy areas in five districts of the province: Spin Boldak, Takhta Pul, Dand, Panjwai and Maiwand.

Sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Sunday, October 18, that the Taliban had instructed their fighters to prevent people from visiting these recreational areas.

According to the sources, the decision was made as winter approaches, because the number of people visiting these areas for recreation increases during this season.

Meanwhile, the Taliban’s Department of Information and Culture in Kandahar said the areas had been closed because of criminal incidents and clashes.

The Taliban’s decision has drawn criticism on social media, with some users saying that the group is restricting activities that bring people happiness and provide recreation opportunities.

These areas are reportedly visited by thousands of people on holidays who go there to enjoy themselves and spend their leisure time.
