The Taliban discussed the Afghanistan-Turkmenistan railway project and the Balkh-Herat-Kandahar railway project, increasing rail transport, and launching passenger train services between Afghanistan and Iran at the 14th regional meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).

Bakhtar News Agency, which is controlled by the Taliban, reported on Saturday, October 17, that Abdul Karim Fateh, head of the Taliban Railway Authority, attended the meeting held in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan.

According to the report, the ECO meeting also discussed digitizing transit procedures, attracting investment, and expanding rail transport.

Fateh also held talks with representatives of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, and Iran on implementing joint railway projects.

The launch of passenger train services between Afghanistan and Iran was also among the topics discussed during meetings on the sidelines of the gathering.
