Qari Asil, the Taliban district governor in Tagab, Badakhshan, has criticised Rahmatullah Najib, the group’s governor in the province, saying that after waiting for three and a half hours outside his door, the governor refused to hear his grievances. He has therefore resigned from his position.
An audio recording of the Taliban local official was made available to the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Sunday, September 27, showing that he was dissatisfied with the performance of the Taliban governor in the province. He says that the people of Badakhshan should “cry tears of blood” as their problems continue and their concerns are repeatedly ignored.
He says that when they cannot raise their problems with Taliban officials, how can the people of Badakhshan be expected to present their concerns?
Asil says he was told that he should have arranged the meeting several days in advance to meet with the Taliban governor in Badakhshan.
Addressing the Badakhshan Taliban, he says that for this reason, he does not want to be “humiliated” and is resigning.
The remarks come as, over the past five years, the Taliban have failed to address many of the problems faced by the people amid widespread restrictions and difficulties, and in some cases have appointed inexperienced individuals loyal to the group to government positions.
