Local sources in Kapisa province have reported that the Taliban killed a former military officer after detaining him for two days in the province.
Sources speaking to Hasht-e Subh revealed that the former military officer, identified as Mohammad Akbar, was killed by the Taliban on Friday, September 8.
According to sources, the Taliban detained Mohammad Akbar on Wednesday night, September 6, from his home in Ali Khail village in the center of Kapisa.
Mohammad Akbar was a former officer in the previous government’s army and had been previously detained and imprisoned by the Taliban three times on charges of collaborating with armed groups opposed to the Taliban.
Sources further added that this former military officer had no affiliations with any group and was known to be seeking amnesty under the Taliban’s general amnesty claims in the country.
The detention, torture, and killing of former military personnel and government officials by the Taliban are not new occurrences.
Previously, human rights organizations had expressed concerns about the detention, torture, and execution of former government military personnel by the Taliban, but these claims have consistently been denied by the Taliban.
