Shamsuddin Hemayoun, the governor of the Yangi Qala district in Takhar province, stands accused of manipulating a substantial quantity of humanitarian aid, including approximately 160 bags of chemical fertilizers and improved wheat. This aid was generously provided by the Norwegian Afghanistan Committee (NAC) to cater to the needs of vulnerable locals and struggling farmers in the province.
Sources who spoke with Hasht-e Subh on Tuesday, August 29, have revealed that this high-ranking Taliban official orchestrated the alleged manipulation of humanitarian assistance roughly a week ago.
According to these sources, subsequent to the exposure of Shamsuddin Hemayoun’s purported “embezzlement,” he reportedly summoned multiple chiefs of development councils and “cluster leaders” from the Yangi Qala district to his office, where they were allegedly coerced into making what seems to be “forced confessions.”
A document supposedly containing these confessions, now reportedly in the possession of Hasht-e Subh, underscores that the chiefs of the development councils and “cluster leaders” from Yangi Qala have asserted that the NAC did not extend any form of assistance to their district.
As of the time of reporting, the NAC has refrained from issuing any official statement regarding this matter.
It is worth noting that since taking control, the Taliban have repeatedly encountered accusations from both the nation’s inhabitants and international organizations. These allegations assert that the group has been meddling with and manipulating the distribution of crucial humanitarian aid. However, the Taliban staunchly refutes these claims.
