Officials of the “Food and Work” project in Kabul say that Taliban have prevented female employees from working in the distribution of aid to the needy.
On Saturday, officials of the project told Hasht-e Subh, “Taliban have hindered the Food and Work project. They have closed the office several times, citing that work for women is forbidden, and questioning who is responsible for the women’s duties.”
They added, “We have hired women with their male guardians. Now Taliban have once again prevented work, even with their guardians present.”
Officials say that the purpose of this project was to facilitate and reduce costs, create job opportunities for the younger generation, and continue to distribute free food to the needy.
According to them, at least 300 women were employed in various sections of the project and observed Islamic hijab, but now they have been confined to their homes by the Taliban.
Najiyullah Borhani, the head of “Food and Work,” wrote on his Facebook page that he had met with the Taliban’s Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs in Kabul but was unable to secure their agreement for women’s participation in this project.
This is happening while Taliban have been prohibiting women from working in domestic and foreign institutions for several months.
After taking control of Afghanistan, Taliban have imposed many restrictions on women’s social life.
