Following the directives of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, the UAE has sent a joint relief team and established a humanitarian air bridge to assist victims of the recent earthquake in northern Afghanistan.
The UAE’s state news agency, WAM, reported on Friday night, November 7, that a team comprising representatives from the Joint Operations Command, the UAE Aid Agency, and the Emirates Red Crescent has been deployed to Afghanistan to conduct field assessments and expand relief operations.
According to the report, the UAE has so far sent four aircraft carrying food supplies, medical equipment, and shelter tents to the earthquake-affected areas in northern Afghanistan.
At the same time, part of the immediate needs of the victims are being met through local Afghan markets to accelerate the aid process and ease the burden of the disaster on affected families.
UAE officials stated that this initiative is part of the country’s longstanding humanitarian approach and reaffirms its commitment to supporting communities affected by natural disasters worldwide.
