The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) says the use of solar energy in schools and health facilities has improved access to education and healthcare services for hundreds of thousands of women and girls in Afghanistan.
The programme said on Monday, October 5, that the support has been provided from January 2023 to September 2026, reaching a total of 743,470 women and girls across Afghanistan.
According to the UNDP, providing solar energy to these facilities has been part of efforts to improve access to essential services in Afghanistan.
Afghanistan faces energy shortages and unequal access to electricity, particularly in remote and rural areas.
Health facilities and schools in some areas face difficulties in securing the electricity they need. Solar energy is one of the solutions being used to provide power to these facilities and improve the delivery of essential services.
