The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) in Afghanistan is establishing a clean water supply network for several families in Nangarhar Province.
In a statement released on Monday, December 15, the programme said that families in the Sheikh Misri area of Nangarhar currently have to travel several kilometres to access clean drinking water.
UN-Habitat stressed that it is constructing a solar-powered water supply network to address this need.
Access to safe drinking water remains one of the most serious challenges facing families across Afghanistan.
Previously, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) warned that eight out of every ten people in the country drink contaminated water.
