The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Afghanistan and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have met to discuss strengthening midwifery services in Afghanistan.
UNFPA said on Wednesday, September 9, on X that the two organizations emphasized addressing mothers’ health needs and improving reproductive health services across the country.
They identified supporting quality health services for women and girls and strengthening the capacity of the midwifery sector as key areas of cooperation.
The two organizations also emphasized improving families’ access to health services.
The discussions come as women and families in Afghanistan continue to face challenges in accessing quality healthcare.
