The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has announced the establishment of around 525 storage facilities for raisins, onions, and potatoes across various parts of Afghanistan.
In a statement released on Tuesday, December 16, the organization said the facilities were built with support from the World Bank.
According to FAO, the storage units have been set up in central, northern, southern, and western regions of the country.
“These storage facilities increase the resilience of agricultural products, reduce post-harvest losses, and raise farmers’ incomes,” the FAO said.
In Afghanistan, a large portion of agricultural produce is spoiled due to the lack of proper cold storage and warehouse facilities.
