The findings of a recent survey indicate a significant decline in the satisfaction of Afghan women and girls with their freedom and life choices within Afghanistan in 2023, reaching their lowest levels.
In its latest report released on Friday, November 10th, the research institution GLOP stated that virtually all Afghan women are enduring hardship, and most feel that they are not treated with respect.
According to the report, only 11% of Afghan women interviewed in July expressed satisfaction with the freedom they have in their lives.
This unprecedented drop in women’s satisfaction is a new record for Afghanistan and among all countries surveyed by GLOP. The sharp decline from 29% in 2022 to 11% in 2023 indicates that they have recognized the severe constraints imposed upon them after the Taliban’s takeover, which are now perceived as unchangeable.
The survey findings reveal that, despite Afghan men not experiencing the same level of restrictions imposed on women, both men and women, particularly at present, are dissatisfied with their freedom in choosing how to live.
According to the report, 96% of women and 93% of men in 2023 evaluate their lives at the lowest level, classified as “hardship.”
It is worth noting that over the past two years, the Taliban has issued recommendations and orders, primarily focusing on imposing restrictions on women. The main restrictions include depriving women of political participation, limiting their presence or activities in public spaces, prohibiting further education, and restricting job opportunities.
Nevertheless, Taliban officials claim that women’s rights in Afghanistan are guaranteed within the framework of Sharia law.
