Representatives of several companies contracted by the Taliban’s Ministry of Public Works have expressed concern that the group’s Ministry of Finance has cut nearly 2.5 billion afghanis from the ministry’s budget.
The representatives told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Saturday, October 10, that the mid-fiscal-year budget reduction could affect the implementation of several ongoing projects.
According to the representatives, the cuts could lead to project suspensions and financial losses for the private sector and road construction companies.
They stressed that the issue requires a clear explanation and a responsible review by the relevant authorities to establish the reasons, calculations and priorities behind the budget reduction.
The contractors expect details of the decision and the budget cuts affecting construction and road-building companies to be shared with the public and the media.
Meanwhile, since returning to power in Afghanistan, the Taliban have largely avoided accountability and transparency regarding the implementation of programs, budget preparation and major decisions.
