Amnesty International has expressed strong concern over the “arbitrary” arrest and disappearance of three Afghan journalists by Taliban intelligence and has called for their immediate release.
The organization said in a statement issued on Monday, May 11, 2026, that the three journalists include Mansoor Niazi and Imran Danish, reporters for TOLOnews, and Javid Niazi, editor of a local media outlet, who have been arbitrarily detained.
Amnesty International said these actions are part of a broader pattern of threats and pressure against journalists and media workers in Afghanistan and are in contradiction with human rights commitments.
The statement added that “enforced disappearance and deprivation of liberty” raise serious concerns about the safety of those detained and increase the risk of mistreatment and torture.
The organization called on the Taliban to immediately disclose the whereabouts of these journalists and to ensure their access to family members, lawyers, and legal services.
Amnesty International also emphasized that if there are credible charges, these individuals must be tried through a fair process in accordance with international standards, and they must be released.
