Local sources in Helmand say that the Taliban handed over the body of Nasir Ahmad, a former military officer, to his family yesterday.
Sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Thursday, October 15, that Nasir Ahmad had been arrested five months ago by Taliban intelligence in Helmand, along with Allah Dad Badizi, a former local police commander.
The two men disappeared after their arrests, and their whereabouts remained unknown for five months.
Sources added that the families of the two former security personnel had tried to find them but had been unable to obtain any information about them.
According to the sources, the Taliban’s police command in Helmand handed over the body of Allah Dad Badizi to his family two days ago and Nasir Ahmad’s body to his family yesterday.
Since the Taliban’s return to power, reports of the killings, arbitrary arrests and detentions of former military personnel have continued to emerge, despite the group’s supreme leader having announced a general amnesty.
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) also said in its quarterly report that it had documented at least four killings and 14 cases of arbitrary arrest and detention of former security force members between July and September.
