The Afghanistan Media Support Organization (AMSO) has expressed serious concern over the situation of several journalists detained by the Taliban, including Shakib Ahmad Nazari, Bashir Hatef, and Hamid Farhadi.
The Organization said in a statement on Saturday, April 11, that the mental and psychological condition of Bashir Hatef and Shakib Nazari is not stable, and that any neglect of their health would constitute a serious violation of human rights and fundamental principles of freedom of expression.
The statement said that these journalists were only carrying out their duty of reporting and that their detention had no justification.
AMSO has also called on the Taliban to “immediately and unconditionally” release these journalists.
The organization said: “Detaining journalists, especially when they are under severe psychological pressure, is contrary to all international conventions and Islamic values.”
AMSO has called on the United Nations, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), Reporters Without Borders (RSF), and other international organizations to increase their efforts to protect the lives of journalists in Afghanistan.
The Afghanistan Media Support Organization has warned that full responsibility for the life and safety of Bashir Hatef and Shakib Nazari lies directly with those who detained them.
