The Iraqi government has announced that it is prepared to prevent any attempts to target neighboring countries from Iraqi territory.
Al Jazeera reported early Sunday, August 2, that Baghdad made the announcement in a statement.
According to the report, the Iraqi government said its armed forces are ready to thwart any attempts to launch attacks against neighboring countries.
The statement comes as reports have emerged in recent days of attacks by Iran-linked forces from Iraqi territory against neighboring countries, including Saudi Arabia.
Following these attacks, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced joint strikes by U.S. and Saudi forces against positions belonging to the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF/Hashd al-Shaabi) in Iraq.
