A video circulating on social media shows officers from the Taliban’s Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice (MPVPV) severely beating a woman in the middle of a street for allegedly not wearing the type of hijab required by the group.
The video, which was shared on social media on Tuesday, May 5, has sparked widespread reactions.
Sources say that the Taliban’s morality police, with the assistance of a female member of the group, stopped a woman in public and beat her on “Taimani Project Street” in Kabul.
The footage shows that the woman was wearing a full hijab.
Meanwhile, sources say that the Taliban’s morality police have once again begun detaining women from the streets and have taken several of them away.
According to the sources, inspectors from the MPVPV, dressed in white cloaks, are monitoring women at the “Mubarak Center” shopping complex in the Kote Sangi area of Kabul and are even whipping women who are wearing hijab.
Sources also stated that the Taliban’s morality police are threatening women with arrest.
Last year, the Taliban also carried out mass arrests of women accused of not wearing the group’s required hijab, which raised widespread concern among the public.
