U.S. President Donald Trump has called Norway a “garbage country” while expressing anger over not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize.
Reuters reported early Monday, October 26, that Trump had intensified his insulting remarks against Norway over the failure to award him the prize.
According to the report, Trump made the comments at a political rally in Port Huron, Michigan, ahead of next week’s midterm elections.
He said Norwegian immigrants had no place in the United States because the Nobel Committee, based in Norway’s capital, Oslo, had not awarded him the Nobel Peace Prize.
Blaming recent unrest in France on immigration, Trump said he welcomed immigrants from some countries but would not accept those from Norway. “Because I didn’t get the Nobel Prize… I don’t want anybody from Norway,” he said.
Using a phrase he had previously applied to Haiti, Libya, Somalia and Yemen, the U.S. president added: “Frankly, Norway has become a garbage country.”
Earlier this week, Trump described the decision not to award him the Nobel Peace Prize as an “indelible stain” on Norway.
