Officials at Dawat Private University in Kabul have closed the university in protest against the appointment of a new leadership board by the Taliban’s Ministry of Higher Education.
The university condemned the Taliban’s appointment of the board in a statement on Saturday, September 19.
Dawat University said the board was appointed without the approval of the university’s administration and founders and therefore lacks legitimacy in the institution’s view.
The statement said the Taliban had taken control of the university and appointed a new leadership board “without providing any valid religious, legal, or administrative justification” and without the consent of the administration and founders.
Dawat University said all academic, educational, and administrative activities at the institution would be suspended from September 20, 2026, until its legal and regulatory status is clarified.
The Taliban’s Ministry of Higher Education has not yet commented on the appointment of the new leadership board at Dawat University or the reasons behind the decision.
Previously, the group also suspended the activities of Khatam al-Nabieen Private University.
