Local sources in Nimruz province report that in the past month, a total of 40,769 Afghan refugees were either deported from Iran or chose to return to their home country voluntarily.
Sources on Monday, September 25th, revealed that this number of refugees entered the country via the Rah-e Abresham border crossing between August 21st and September 22nd of the current year.
Among the returning refugees are 1,871 families, comprising a total of 7,514 individuals.
Sources indicate that the majority of these refugees were deported from Iran; however, the exact number of deportees remains unclear.
In recent months, Iran has intensified its deportation of Afghan refugees. In August alone, 46,838 Afghan refugees were either deported from Iran or voluntarily returned via the Rah-e Abresham border crossing in Nimruz province.
Following the resurgence of the Taliban in Afghanistan and the increasing unemployment rates, a significant number of Afghan citizens are making their way to Iran on a daily basis.
According to Iranian media reports, there are currently over eight million Afghan migrants living in various cities across the country.
