The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Afghanistan says more than 812,000 women and girls have benefited from a project that equipped 833 schools and health centres with solar power systems.
The organisation announced on Sunday, October 11, on the occasion of International Day of the Girl, that 4,410 female teachers and 1,607 female health workers had benefited from the project’s services.
The United Nations said the SESEHA project had also trained 20 women in solar power systems and prepared them to work in the sector.
The United Nations Development Programme said the project aims to expand access to solar energy and provide better opportunities for women and girls in Afghanistan.
