The first meeting of the Council of National Coordinators of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) is being held today in Islamabad.
Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Sunday, September 27, that the national coordinators will discuss cooperation within the organisation, Pakistan’s priorities during its chairmanship, and preparations for upcoming meetings and events.
According to Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, the meeting is being held as part of Pakistan’s chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State for 2026 and 2027.
Pakistan has said that during its chairmanship of the SCO, it will focus on strengthening regional connectivity and cooperation, promoting innovation, expanding economic cooperation, and strengthening people-to-people ties among member states.
Pakistan’s chairmanship is being pursued under the theme, “Turning Vision into Action: Connecting, Innovating and Prosperity for All.”
Earlier, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that Pakistan assumed the SCO chairmanship after the conclusion of the SCO Council of Heads of State summit in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan.
Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan would hold the SCO chairmanship for 2027.
