Heather Barr: An Effective Mechanism to Hold the Taliban Accountable is Mandatory

The Head of Women’s Human Rights Watch has given a speech in the European Parliament in connection with the violation of human rights by the Taliban.

Heather Barr, Head of the Women’s Watch for Human Rights, announced in a tweet on Wednesday, October 26, the efforts to create an effective mechanism to make the Taliban accountable is mandatory United Nations regarding Afghanistan.

“Efforts are underway to create a new mandatory UN mechanism to collect, verify and preserve evidence and ensure accountability for crimes committed in Afghanistan,” Ms. Barr said.

Several women’s rights activists have praised Heather Barr’s frank speech in the European Parliament.

After taking over Afghanistan, the Taliban have been accused of war crimes and widespread violations of human rights.
