Rangin Dadfar Spanta, former foreign minister of Afghanistan and one of the country’s political figures, says that 21 people, including women, children, and men, were shot in Herat because they had a different religion.
Mr. Spanta wrote on his X platform on Sunday, April 12, that the only “crime” of these individuals was having a different religion.
He added: “All this brutality can only stem from a historically barbaric mindset that has today come to dominate our country.”
According to sources, motorcycle-riding attackers shot dead civilians who had gone out for leisure in the village of “Dehmiri” in the Injil district of Herat on Friday.
Sources say that many of those shot dead were Shia Muslims.
The Taliban claim that 11 people were killed in the incident and several others were injured.
The group has claimed that it has arrested a suspect in connection with the incident.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the shooting of civilians in Herat.
Many critics of the Taliban say that the attack was carried out in coordination with the Taliban and that the group spreads hatred against other religions.
