The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) says that women and girls of Afghanistan will face a system of gender apartheid if they are forced to return to their country.
On Monday, September 22, in response to questions from the Hasht-e Subh Daily, the Commission stated that Pakistan’s treatment of Afghanistan refugees violates the country’s human rights commitments under both its Constitution and international instruments.
The Commission, which also released its responses simultaneously on X, added that it has received disturbing reports about the condition of Afghanistan refugees in Pakistan.
Earlier, Afghanistan refugees in Pakistan had complained about arrests and forced deportations by the country’s police.
Thousands of people—particularly protesting women and girls, journalists, and human rights defenders—have sought refuge in Pakistan out of fear of arrest and Taliban retaliation, and are now at risk of being forcibly deported.
