Hamid Karzai, the former president of Afghanistan, has called for schools and universities to reopen to girls on the occasion of the International Day of the Girl.
In a message on Sunday, October 11, Karzai emphasized the importance of empowering girls, saying it is essential for Afghanistan’s growth and development.
The former president added that Afghanistan must focus on empowering girls to achieve growth and development.
According to Karzai, this goal can be achieved only when girls have access to all educational opportunities.
He also urged society not to overlook the importance of empowering girls alongside boys.
Karzai stressed that respecting the status and achievements of women and girls and creating opportunities for their participation are essential to the country’s progress.
Since the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in August 2021, girls above the sixth grade have been barred from attending school, while women have also been prohibited from pursuing university education.
