Iranian officials say they prevented 145,520 Afghan citizens from illegally entering the country during the first six months of the current year.
IRNA reported on Wednesday, September 30, that Majid Shoja, commander of the Border Guard of Iran’s Razavi Khorasan Province, said the individuals had been identified along the country’s borders since the beginning of the year and prevented from entering Iran.
Shoja said that during the first six months of last year, 39,311 Afghan citizens were detained at the borders of Razavi Khorasan Province and deported from Iran.
He added that a comparison of this year’s figures with those of last year shows that the number of people prevented from entering Iran has increased 4.5-fold.
Majid Shoja said that despite the end of the 12-day war and recent clashes, some Afghan citizens continue to attempt to enter Iran.
