Former President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai, reacting to the announcement of the results of the university entrance exam, said he hopes the doors of schools and universities will be reopened to girls as soon as possible so that they can continue their education.

Karzai congratulated Rashid, Enamullah, and Abdul Hadi, who secured first, second, and third positions respectively in the 1405 university entrance exam of Afghanistan, in a post on X on Thursday, July 9, 2026.

The former president of Afghanistan also emphasized the importance of equal access to education and higher education for girls and boys.

Karzai had previously expressed regret over the absence of girls from the university entrance exam, saying that education and learning are vital for everyone and that he hopes the doors of schools and universities will be reopened to girls.

He said that Afghanistan can move toward progress and development by relying on the knowledge and expertise of girls and boys.

These remarks come as the doors of schools and universities have remained closed to girls over the past five years following the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan.
