Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Taliban’s Foreign Minister, has traveled to Russia to attend the eighth meeting of the “Moscow Format” on Afghanistan.
Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal, head of the Information and Public Relations Department at the Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said in a statement published on Sunday, October 4, that Muttaqi will speak at the meeting about the current situation in Afghanistan.
Takal added that Muttaqi will also meet with Sergey Lavrov, Russia’s Foreign Minister, on the sidelines of the meeting.
The eighth meeting of the “Moscow Format” is scheduled to be held in Moscow tomorrow, with representatives and senior officials from regional countries expected to attend.
Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, had said that special representatives and senior officials from Russia, Iran, China, India, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan would also attend the meeting.
The meeting will also discuss political and economic cooperation, counterterrorism and the fight against drug trafficking.
