Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Taliban’s deputy prime minister for economic affairs, has criticized UNAMA’s reports on Afghanistan, saying the mission should not focus exclusively on negative aspects, as the opposition does.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of a special week organized by the Afghan Red Crescent Society on Sunday, October 18, Baradar said UNAMA should maintain neutrality in its analytical reports.
He added that overlooking Afghanistan’s economic and security achievements in UNAMA’s reports was unfair.
His remarks come as UNAMA’s latest report on the human rights situation in Afghanistan documented continued arbitrary detentions, restrictions on women and girls, pressure on the media, and violations of the rights of former security personnel.
Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban spokesperson, had previously accused UNAMA of bias and conducting propaganda against the Taliban.
