The National Resistance Front of Afghanistan (NRF) has claimed responsibility for an attack on the vehicle carrying Abdul Rahman Mansour, the Taliban mayor in Faizabad, the capital of Badakhshan Province.
The front announced on Thursday, August 13, 2026, that its forces had targeted the vehicle carrying the Taliban mayor of Faizabad.
According to the National Resistance Front, the attack was carried out 100 metres from the Badakhshan provincial government building, killing the Taliban mayor and his guards.
Local sources had earlier also confirmed the killing of the Taliban mayor.
The National Resistance Front added that its forces are carrying out attacks in various parts of the country with the aim of “liberating the people and the country from the illegitimate rule of the Taliban.”
The Taliban have so far not commented on the incident or the casualties resulting from it.
