OCHA

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has said that young people in Afghanistan should have the opportunity to receive an education and build their future, but for many girls, access to this opportunity remains impossible.

The organization wrote on its X account on Thursday, August 13, that every young person deserves access to education and the opportunity to develop their talents and abilities.

OCHA stressed that education plays an important role in shaping the future of young people and that this opportunity should not be taken away from any young person.

This comes as access to education and attendance at schools and universities remain banned for large numbers of girls in Afghanistan.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has also announced that Afghanistan is the only country in the world where girls and women are banned from accessing education beyond the primary level, and estimated that 2.4 million girls are deprived of secondary education.
