Oman’s Foreign Minister, Badr bin Hamad Albusaidi, has said that his country opposes the imposition of transit fees on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
Al Jazeera reported on Tuesday, June 30, that the Omani foreign minister made the remarks in an interview with a French media outlet.
According to the report, although Oman opposes transit fees, it appears to support charging for “maritime, environmental, and shipping services.”
“Some services may include enhancing navigational safety, protecting waters from pollution, and increasing preparedness to deal with accidents or emergencies,” the foreign minister said.
This comes as, in recent days, the establishment of a new shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz by Oman has faced a strong reaction from Iran.
