OpenAI said it banned accounts linked to Chinese law enforcement, romance scammers and influence operations, including a smear campaign against Japan’s first woman prime minister.
Reuters news agency reported on Wednesday night, February 26, that several accounts used ChatGPT alongside other tools, including social media platforms, to carry out cybercrimes while posing as a dating agency, law firms, and U.S. officials.
OpenAI said it banned a ChatGPT account linked to an individual associated with Chinese law enforcement whose activity involved orchestrating a covert influence operation targeting Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.
Additionally, a group of accounts has used ChatGPT to carry out romance scams targeting Indonesian men, affecting hundreds of victims each month.
The scam involved generating promotional texts for fake dating services and collecting multiple payments from users.
