Taliban authorities say that 488 families, totaling 2,622 individuals, were returned to Afghanistan from neighboring countries in a single day.
Taliban deputy spokesperson Hamdullah Fitrat said in a statement on Sunday, June 7, that 460 families, or 2,473 people, entered the country through the Torkham border crossing.
According to the statement, 22 families returned via the Spin Boldak crossing, while three families entered through the Nimroz province border and another three families through the Islam Qala crossing in Herat province.
The report comes as many returning migrants face serious challenges, including lack of shelter, unemployment, and economic hardship.
On the same day, the World Food Programme (WFP) said that border closures and transit restrictions have made the delivery of food aid to Afghanistan more complicated and time-consuming.
