Heavy rain and strong winds have battered the northeastern United States as a powerful fall storm intensifies, causing hundreds of flight cancellations and leaving tens of thousands of people without electricity.
Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported early Sunday, September 27, that New York City, Boston and Philadelphia were in the direct path of the storm, known as a nor’easter. Authorities have warned of possible widespread flooding and road closures.
According to the report, the US National Weather Service said in its latest forecast that the storm is expected to cause severe coastal flooding along the coastline during multiple high-tide cycles over the weekend.
Meanwhile, data from a power outage monitoring website showed that, by Saturday evening, more than 95,000 customers had lost electricity in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Pennsylvania.
Reports also indicated that hundreds of flights had been canceled, including 253 at Boston Logan International Airport alone.
