Yasmin Prazo Desimouze, Director of Operations at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), says the people of Afghanistan are facing a severe humanitarian crisis and serious health challenges.

According to Agence France-Presse, on Tuesday, September 1, she called on the international community not to forget Afghanistan and to continue providing humanitarian assistance.

She said one million Afghan children are suffering from severe malnutrition, while another 3.7 million children are experiencing acute malnutrition.

According to her, cuts in foreign aid have led to the closure of around 100 child malnutrition treatment centers across Afghanistan.

Prazo Desimouze also said that the Red Cross supports 46 clinics and seven rehabilitation centers in Afghanistan. She expressed concern over restrictions imposed on women as well.

The ICRC Director of Operations emphasized that the people of Afghanistan need national and international support and should not be left alone under the current circumstances.

This comes as Afghanistan faces widespread humanitarian needs amid declining humanitarian assistance and a worsening health crisis.
