Reuters, citing U.S. officials, has reported that Iran will present a written proposal aimed at resolving the impasse with Washington.
The news agency reported on Thursday, February 19, quoting a senior U.S. official, that Iran agreed during the Geneva negotiations to submit a written proposal outlining how it intends to address American concerns.
The official said the United States is currently awaiting Iran’s written proposal.
According to the report, senior U.S. national security advisers met on Wednesday in the White House Situation Room to discuss Iran and were told that all American military forces stationed in the region must remain in place through mid-March.
The United States is seeking for Iran to abandon its nuclear program, but Tehran has firmly rejected the demand, insisting that it is not pursuing nuclear weapons.
The report said Washington has attempted to broaden the scope of the talks to include non-nuclear issues such as Iran’s missile stockpile, but Iran maintains it is willing to negotiate only over limitations on its nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief.
Meanwhile, some U.S. media outlets have reported that a potential American strike on Iran could take place this weekend.
