The United Nations Women’s Entity has announced that the ban on the entry of female Afghanistan citizens working for the organization into its offices across Afghanistan has reached one year and remains in place.

The organization said on Monday, September 7, that the restriction is “unprecedented” in the 80-year history of the United Nations.

The United Nations says these restrictions have reduced the institution’s ability to assist women and girls in Afghanistan.

The United Nations said that “without female Afghanistan employees,” it cannot provide assistance suited to the culture and needs of women and girls.

According to the organization, despite these restrictions, women in Afghanistan have continued over the past year to provide livelihood, health, and psychosocial support services.

The restriction has been imposed alongside widespread bans on the education, employment, and social participation of women in Afghanistan, creating challenges for the United Nations’ humanitarian operations in Afghanistan.
