Sources in Kabul say that the Taliban’s Morality Police have prevented Shiites from holding mourning ceremonies in the village of Qala-e Shahi in Qarabagh District of Kabul Province.
Sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Saturday, June 27, 2026, that the Taliban Morality Police raided the Shiite mourning ceremony in the village, disrupted the event, and told residents not to eat the food distributed as religious offerings.
The sources said that the Taliban Morality Police had come for three consecutive days and repeatedly disrupted the Shiite mourning ceremonies.
According to the sources, yesterday, which marked Ashura, the Taliban Morality Police forced people out of the mosque and locked its doors.
The sources added that the Taliban Morality Police took several community elders to the district center and, by harassing residents, prevented the mourning ceremony from being held properly.
This comes as numerous reports have also emerged of Taliban restrictions on Muharram mourning ceremonies in other parts of Afghanistan.
