Local sources in Helmand say that following the Taliban’s announcement of a ban on Pakistani medicines, pharmacies have been instructed to collect the medicines, but they have not been given sufficient time to do so.
Sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Tuesday, September 1, that pharmacy owners were informed about three to four days ago that Pakistani medicines had been banned and that they were required to collect them.
According to the sources, they went to the Taliban’s Public Health Directorate in Helmand to follow up on the issue, but officials at the directorate said that the decision to ban Pakistani medicines was not within their authority.
They said that the absence of a specific authority responsible for addressing the issue has created difficulties for pharmacy owners.
Since the beginning of border tensions between the Taliban and Pakistan, trade between the two sides has come to a halt, creating challenges for the import of medicines and health equipment into Afghanistan.
