The Taliban’s Ministry of Interior has reported that the death toll from the earthquake in Kunar province has reached 610 people.

Abdul Mateen Qani, the spokesperson for the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior, stated on Monday, September 1, 2025, that 1,300 people have also been injured in the incident so far.

Furthermore, Qani added that the number of casualties in Nangarhar province has risen to 12 dead and 255 injured.

Some of the victims affected by the Kunar earthquake have reported that, in certain cases, up to 10 members of a single family have been either killed or injured.

An earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale struck the center of Kunar province around 11:45 p.m. last night.

The earthquake also caused damage in the provinces of Nangarhar, Laghman, Nuristan, and Panjshir.

The Taliban have claimed that they have dispatched medical teams to assist the injured in Kunar.

This comes amid reports from sources indicating a shortage of female doctors in the Asmar district of Nangarhar’s Kunar region.
