Reports emerging from Badakhshan province indicate that Qari Abdul Basir, an official associated with a Taliban-affiliated jihad school in the city of Fayzabad, has been detained by Taliban intelligence. The detention follows allegations of sexual assault involving a 17-year-old girl.
Local sources, speaking to Hasht-e Subh Daily on Monday, April 8th, revealed that Basir stands accused of assaulting one of his students in the vicinity of Dasht-e Qargh, near Fayzabad.
According to these sources, the arrest of Basir occurred after a complaint was filed by the victim’s family. It’s worth noting that the victim is reportedly pregnant, underscoring the severity of the alleged offense.
As of now, official statements from Taliban authorities in Badakhshan regarding this matter are yet to be issued.
This incident adds to a concerning pattern, as it’s not the first time Taliban members have faced accusations of sexual assault.
