Tajudeen Oyewale

Tajudeen Oyewale, the representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Afghanistan, says reliable access to safe, high-quality medicines is essential for children and families in Afghanistan.

Oyewale wrote on his X account on Sunday, October 18, that UNICEF Afghanistan and UNICEF Uzbekistan had met with pharmaceutical manufacturers from across the region in Tashkent.

According to him, the purpose of the meeting was to explore opportunities for cooperation to ensure sustainable and reliable access to essential medicines in Afghanistan.

UNICEF is emphasizing the importance of reliable access to essential medicines in Afghanistan at a time when, over the past five years since the Taliban returned to power, healthcare services, particularly in remote areas, have faced numerous challenges.

The lack of medical equipment and high-quality medicines, restrictions on the activities of female doctors, and inadequate healthcare facilities are among the problems that have made it difficult for citizens, particularly women and children, to access medical services.
